It should go without saying that the rest of our family finds the views he has expressed morally repugnant, and he did not derive them in any way from us,” they wrote. Alexander Franco, Austin’s dad, is a lawyer. “We love our son very much and are doing everything we can to counter the online influences that have afflicted him.”Franco, who spoke with The Post on Thursday, rejected his parents’ explanation — insisting his views came from real-life experience, not the internet.“I can’t peer inside their minds and they can’t peer inside mine, but it’s not a result of just being online. Twin Falls In-N-Out Shocker: What Led to the Tragic Shooting?

At least three people are dead, and others were injured in a tragic shooting that took place at an In-N-Out located in Twin Falls, Idaho . The shooter is among those who perished, according to the city’s public information officer, Josh Palmer. All shelter-in-place restrictions have also been lifted, as Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks told reporters on Saturday (August 1): "We believe that the threat to the community is over." Duane Rubink, chief of the neighboring Jerome Police Department, said to CNN : “It appears there was one shooter who is deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot.” The scene is currently under investigation. This In-N-Out branch had only been open for a week in Twin Falls, raking in the customers before the horrific shooting over the weekend. Videos posted on social media showed workers running away from the restaurant in a panic, with numerous gunshots heard. The shooting took place in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Saturday afternoon (August 1). The shooter launched his rampage inside the burger joint at around 2 PM local time before heading outside, revealing his identity to witnesses who were recording the incident. According to Hicks, local law enforcement is working to finalize the number of people injured, though they did not reveal how many people were involved. Investigators are working to identify the shooter and work out what the motive was. Authorities shut down the Perrine Bridge and surrounding roads, while businesses in a nearby mall were placed on lockdown. In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder released a statement following the shooting, revealing that an associate lost her life in the shooting. Snyder wrote: “We lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight, she was taking care of our most important asset — our customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own. "He shot both on our property and off, and ended his life shortly after he took the previous lives of our Associate and Customers, innocent people, who never saw it coming.” COO Denny Warnick also released a statement, saying: “We are heartbroken, our prayers go out to our Customers, our Associates, and all of their families. "We are working with the Twin Falls Police Department to assist in the on-going investigation.” The shooter ran outside during the incident, where witnesses filmed him. Credit: Facebook Witnesses saw the incident unfold Lane Koehn, 34, told the Associated Press that he saw everything happen while he was stopped at a traffic light near the fast food joint. He said that he saw a person carrying an AR-style rifle in the drive-thru area, before a man with a pistol started to fire at the suspect. The witness said that an employee moved to help a wounded co-worker, dragging the wounded woman across the parking lot. Koehn, the employee, and the man with the pistol stayed with her until medical support arrived, as he recalled: “She was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it.” He thinks that there were around three or four shots fired, with it not being clear if someone was targeted in particular. Police responded to calls from the area as what was called an active shooter situation. Numerous videos taken by witnesses in the area show a man with a black T-shirt and blue pants standing between two Teslas before aiming a firearm at the driver’s-side window of one of the vehicles. Two shots were made, before the man lowered the weapon and walked away, before starting to run across the parking lot with the rifle. NASA/JPL-Cal./UCLA/MPS/DLR/IDA / SWNSWhile scientists don’t know if life ever actually emerged on the dwarf planet, they are now confident that it once harbored the right conditions to support it.The icy dwarf planet is now a frozen, salty wasteland, but scientists say it likely had a long-lasting internal heat source and the crucial chemical “fuel” that life would have needed to survive.Discovered in 1801 and measuring about 590 miles across, Ceres is the only dwarf planet in the inner solar system and was once considered little more than a cosmic curiosity. While scientists don’t know if life ever actually emerged on Ceres, they are now confident that the dwarf planet once had the right conditions to support it. NASA/JPL / SWNSBut data from NASA’s Dawn mission, which orbited Ceres between 2015 and 2018, brought new questions to light. The spacecraft spotted bright, reflective patches on the surface — residues of salt left behind by ancient, rising brine. Beneath the surface was a now-frozen subsurface ocean of salty water with organic molecules, the carbon-based building blocks of life, also detected.Using thermal and chemical modeling, researchers led by Sam Courville — a PhD candidate at Arizona State University — simulated how Ceres’ interior worked over billions of years.Roughly 2.5 to 4 billion years ago, radioactive decay inside Ceres’ rocky core produced enough heat to send hydrothermal fluids — hot water enriched with dissolved gases and minerals — surging up into its subsurface ocean. On Earth, these kinds of environments — like deep-sea hydrothermal vents — are hotspots for chemotrophic microbes, which derive energy not from sunlight but from chemical reactions.While no direct evidence of life has been found, all the necessary components were present: water, organic molecules, and energy.“On Earth, when hot water from deep underground mixes with the ocean, the result is often a buffet for microbes — a feast of chemical energy. So it could have big implications if we could determine whether Ceres’ ocean had an influx of hydrothermal fluid in the past,” Courville explained in a statement. Unlike Jupiter’s Europa or Saturn’s Enceladus, which remain geologically active due to the gravitational pull of their neighboring parent planets, Ceres is now too cold for life.Ceres orbits alone. Its internal radioactive heating waned long ago, and today, what little liquid remains is trapped in concentrated brine beneath a layer of ice. Surface temperatures plunge to a bone-chilling –81°F.The study found that Ceres, the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, harbored the right conditions to support alien life. An Evangelist influencer from Florida was booted from an Alaska Airlines flight on Thursday after preaching to her fellow passengers during a take-off delay. Whitney Lynn, 40, filmed the bizzare scene on Alaska Airlines flight 708 out of Orlando International Airport in a series of Instagram videos, including the moment she was told she was apparently making crew members feel unsafe. The San Diego-bound flight was delayed prior to take off, which is when Lynn, started to preach from the aisle of the plane. Evangelist Whitney Lynn, 40, claims she was kicked off an Alaska Airlines flight for preaching.“I know we’re all waiting. It’s kind of frustrating, right? this wait. But I want to tell you that God’s timing is perfect and God knows everything,” Lynn can be heard saying to the surrounding aircraft passengers in one of the videos. “And maybe he’s sparing us from danger today. So I want you to rest and know that Jesus Christ loves you so much that he died on the cross for your sins,” she continued. In another video, an apparent airline staffer can be seen telling Lynn to gather her belongings and deplane the aircraft. The Evangelist influencer posted a series of videos of the incident on July 30. No, I don’t.”“So freedom of speech is not safe?” she questions.Lynn claimed it was an act of “spiritual warfare.”As she is gathering her belongings, Lynn says that her preaching is “spiritual warfare” because “demons don’t like the name of Jesus.”The influencer then disembarks the plane and is met by two members of airport upon re-entering the terminal, according to another video. In a statement to The Post, Alaska Airlines said that “prior to the departure of Alaska Airlines Flight 708 from Orlando to San Diego on July 30, our flight crew became increasingly concerned about a guest’s behavior on board the aircraft, which was also affecting other guests”“The passenger was asked to deplane the aircraft for safety reasons. For the foreseeable future, the guest will not be permitted to travel on our flights.”The Evangelist is allegedly temporarily banned from Alaska Airlines and its affiliate airlines following the incident. An adult star and influencer has reportedly reached a plea deal after being accused of murdering her boyfriend. Courtney Clenney, known online as Courtney Tailor, is a social media personality who boasts over 1.7 million Instagram followers. The NSFW content creator is currently due to stand trial for the killing of her partner Christian Obumseli, who died from a knife wound in April 2022. Clenney has remained in custody since August of that same year, after emerging as the primary suspect. The influencer was 26 at the time of her arrest, after she had allegedly stabbed Obumseli to death in their Miami home over four years ago. She denies second-degree murder with a weapon, though she was also accused of taking her crypto-trader boyfriend's computer from the murder scene after it was missed by authorities; they finally accessed it with a password given by his daughter. The couple had been together for less than two years at the time of his death on April 3, 2022. Specific terms around the agreement have not yet been disclosed, with the deal still needing to be approved by a judge. Clenney's legal team have remained tight-lipped on the ordeal, reportedly saying via the Daily Star : "We will reserve further comment on the specific terms until they are placed on the record before the Court." The adult star has had run-ins with the law in the past, having previously been arrested for domestic battery in Las Vegas. Clenney and Obumseli had also dealt with authorities over the years, as cops had been called to their home in Austin, Texas, on numerous occasions. Clenney and her boyfriend moved to Miami at the beginning of 2022, with staff and residents at the One Paraiso building, where they lived, filing several domestic disturbance complaints about the couple. Some had even moved to evict the couple from the premises. Police reports reveal that officers arrived at the residence at around 5 PM on April 3, 2022, following a call about an aggravated battery when the stabbing incident took place. The influencer was seen and later pictured wearing a blood-soaked robe and sweatpants. Obumseli was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the torso, but he would sadly be pronounced dead on arrival. Clenney first claimed self-defence to investigators, but she would ultimately be charged with his murder months on, while she was attending a rehab centre in Hawaii. Feckless youth.America’s youngest adults are spending Friday and Saturday nights on the couch — not because they’re antisocial, but because they’re flat broke, burned out and just plain lonely.A new Harris Poll survey paints a surprisingly bleak picture of Gen Z’s social life, revealing a generation of prime-of-their-lives 20-somethings who desperately want real-world friendships but often can’t afford the price of going out, and lack human-to-human skills.Gen Z confesses they spend the weekends in their PJs, instead of going out to party. More than half of Gen Z adults (51%) say they feel lonely on a typical weekend — the highest rate of any generation and a staggering 37 percentage points higher than 62-to-80-year-old Baby Boomers.Nearly half (49%) admit they don’t have enough friends to spend time with in person, while 65% say they now experience their social lives more through their phones than face-to-face.“I want more spontaneous moments in my life to meet new people or make more friends,” one respondent admitted.Instead of bars and parties, staying home has become the new normal. Nearly three-quarters (74%) say they spend at least half of their weekends lazing, while 73% say staying in has become their default plan.They don’t party hard like Gen Xers did. The revealing survey revealed Gen Z wishes they had the social skills to make real-life friends. Breakthrough Twist in Idaho Murders: What Was Found in Victim’s Hand?

Bryan Kohberger has claimed, a year on from his sentencing, that a recent "discovery" may prove his innocence in the Idaho murders . Back in July 2025, Kohberger was handed four life sentences for the murders of four University of Idaho students : Madison May Mogen, Kaylee Jade Goncalves, Xana Alexia Kernodle, and Ethan James Chapin in their home. Renewed attention has been brought to the case following the release of Netflix crime documentary The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare on July 29. But now Kohberger , who is serving four life sentences for the crime, is attempting to withdraw the guilty plea that spared him from standing trial, as well as the death penalty. He has requested the withdrawal in a petition for post-conviction relief filed in Idaho’s Fourth Judicial District Court, as reported by People . Kohberger has attempted to withdraw his guilty plea. Credit: Pool / Getty Kohberger's "exculpatory discovery" claim The convicted murderer wrote in the affidavit attached to his petition that his legal team didn't inform him of some key evidence that was turned over by prosecutors in plea discussions. He suggests that this evidence would have changed his decision to plead guilty. Kohberger wrote in the filing: “Namely, clumps of hair found in Ethan Chapin’s hands.” According to a report from the Trace Evidence Unit at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in January 2023, results of laboratory testing on evidence found at the crime scene included this information. The report detailed that debris was found in Chapin's right hand, as well as Kernodle's left hand, with their bodies found just mere feet apart. It further added that the debris was “examined for hairs microscopically consistent with hairs in the head hair sample” from Kohberger, but this wasn't found. A filing from his attorney, Anne Taylor, on June 6, 2025, detailed this just one month after Kohberger's plea deal was made with prosecutors. The "clumps of hair" description isn't included in any filings or records, with it instead featuring in the book Broken Plea, which was written by former FBI agent Christ Whitcomb about the murders. Kohberger's petition and affidavit bring up some of the same points made by the former federal agent, as he looked to find the reason for the “unexplained plea”. Whitcomb has claimed since the release of his book in May that the “clumps of hair” in Chapin’s hand had not been tested, as Kohberger claimed there was a “failure of further inquiry” into this evidence. Kohberger was convicted of killing four of the six students living in the house. Credit: @kayleegoncalves / Instagram DNA expert tested hair A court document earlier this year revealed that a DNA expert named Ruth Ballard was hired by Kohberger's defense to test the debris in Chapin's hand. She examined one hair from the right hand” of Chapin, finding it to be “morphologically consistent with Decedent Chapin’s own reference hair.” It is unknown if Kohberger knew of these findings prior to the petition, or if he plans to claim that there were other samples of hair left untested by the FBI or experts. He further argued that he was led to believe whether he was actually guilty was irrelevant when deciding whether to accept the plea agreement. In the filing, Kohberger claimed he was "advised to lie" and told he would secure a "legal victory" by entering what he described as a "false plea". The claims mirror remarks Kohberger recently made during an interview with The New York Times, where he again maintained his innocence and argued he had been manipulated into pleading guilty. "My actual innocence is my truth, and the plea, hinged on by false promises and blatant disinformation, MUST be withdrawn," he said in a statement provided to the newspaper. Budensiek said he hopes the process leads to her getting mental health treatment.Some parts of the home had up to one foot of feces in it, police said. In the days following the arrest, county officials were able to find three of the four cats who escaped the house of horrors during the rescue operation. One of Giustino’s friends surrendered five more small pets that the postal worker allegedly left in her care, Sarah Fisher of the Humane Society of Treasure Coast told Fox News.By July 29, the humane society had received 108 pets from her home. And dozens of people have been lining up each day hoping to be reunited with their missing furry friends and felines. Authorities recovered the animals on July 20 when they arrested the elderly woman. Several people have already been joyfully reconnected with their fur babies. “There were grown men crying; there were kids crying. It was so emotional,” Fisher told the outlet. Linh Nguyen, who had been searching for her 6-year-old cat Patchy for seven months, said her prayers for a “miracle” were finally answered. The U.S. State Department has renewed its travel advisory for the Bahamas, urging Americans to "exercise increased caution," despite an improvement in crime statistics.The State Department also warned visitors about risks tied to boating, beaches, hurricanes and strict firearms laws. "Stay alert in vacation rental properties, especially where private security is not present," says the alert issued Tuesday."Boating is not well regulated. Injuries and deaths have occurred. There have been reports of sexual assaults by Jet Ski operators."The updated travel advisory keeps The Bahamas at Level 2, the second-lowest advisory level, meaning Americans are not being told to outright avoid travel or reconsider trips. Around 9.5 million Americans visited The Bahamas in 2024 (85 percent of 11.2 million total visitors). Why It MattersThe Bahamas is one of the Caribbean’s most popular destinations for U.S. vacationers, especially cruise passengers and travelers visiting Nassau, Paradise Island, Freeport and the Family Islands. But crime data suggests a mixed level of safety. Violent crime remains a concern in parts of Nassau and Freeport, while several major crime categories declined sharply in 2025, according to Royal Bahamas Police Force figures. The State Department’s Level 2 warning means travelers should take extra precautions, particularly in areas where crime has historically been more common. ...What To KnowThe U.S. State Department’s latest Bahamas Travel Advisory says visitors should exercise increased caution because of crime, noting that violent crime can occur in the country and that "most crime occurs in Nassau and Freeport" on New Providence and Grand Bahama islands. The advisory specifically tells travelers to stay alert in the "Over the Hill" area in Nassau, south of Shirley Street, where gangs have killed residents, and to remain cautious in vacation rental properties, especially where private security is not present. "By international standards, the Bahamas has a relatively high rate of violent crime, but it's highly localized in places that are generally far from the usual tourist resorts," Alex Andreichuk, CEO of Altezza Travel, told Newsweek."Whether or not tourists are in real danger depends on how much of a 'local' experience they're seeking. Wandering through neighborhoods that drive the country's crime statistics is never a good idea, and that's not unique to the Bahamas."The State Department also warned about safety issues involving boating and personal watercraft, saying boating is not well regulated and that injuries and deaths have occurred. Due to these safety risks, U.S. government employees are not allowed to use or rent Jet Skis and personal watercraft from independent operators on New Providence and Paradise Islands.A separate security alert from the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas in June said the embassy had received multiple reports involving Jet Ski operators and U.S. women in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and said six U.S. citizens had been hospitalized with Jet Ski accident injuries since August 2024. The newly updated advisory also warns Americans that firearms and ammunition are illegal in the Bahamas, including small quantities in your carry-on bags or luggage. Travelers have faced arrest, jail time and fines after authorities found firearms or ammunition. Is Crime Actually Up In The Bahamas?The latest crime report from the Royal Bahamas Police Force points to a decline in major crime generally in 2025 compared to 2024. Major crimes decreased by 15 percent, from 2,825 cases in 2024 to 2,409 cases in 2025. Crimes against people fell 27 percent, from 696 incidents in 2024 to 509 in 2025, while crimes against property fell 11 percent, from 2,129 to 1,900 incidents. Homicides also fell 31 percent, from 120 incidents in 2024 to 83 incidents in 2025, according to the police report. Armed robberies also declined 39 percent, from 265 incidents in 2024 to 162 in 2025. However, not every category improved. Attempted murders rose 23 percent nationally, from 31 in 2024 to 38 in 2025, and stealing from vehicles increased 7 percent, from 187 to 200 incidents. Stolen vehicles also jumped 2 percent, from 392 to 398 incidents. The police figures also show that New Providence, home to Nassau and Paradise Island, accounted for the bulk of many serious offenses. In 2025, New Providence recorded 76 of the country’s 83 murders and 157 of its 162 armed robberies.Are Tourists Being Targeted More?The latest OSAC Bahamas Country Security Report said violent crime generally does not occur in tourist areas and described gang-on-gang crime as the country’s primary security threat. The same OSAC report said The Bahamas recorded a 9 percent increase in homicides in 2024, with 120 homicides compared to 110 in 2023, but added that those homicides "did not target tourists" and mostly occurred as retaliation between people with links to crime. OSAC also said there had been an increase in crimes targeting tourists in 2022, but that this increase was not reflected in the 2024 statistics."It's not getting worse, but it's also not particularly well managed. The U.S. travel advisory explicitly states that it's only a summary update, with no changes to the risk level," Andreichuk said. "So unless you were already worried about safety when visiting the Bahamas over the past 10 years, I wouldn't start worrying now." Should Vacationers Actually Be Worried?For most travelers, the advisory should be seen more as a caution flag than a red light. The Bahamas remains at Level 2, the same level used for many destinations where Americans are advised to be more alert but are not told to avoid travel. "The risk is real but not materially different than it has been…We have plenty of travelers going to the Bahamas," Faye Travel Insurance VP of Claims Jeff Rolander told Newsweek.For most vacationers, the risk appears to be highly location or activity specific.OSAC said most murders and armed robberies have historically occurred in portions of New Providence that are "not areas generally frequented by tourists." However, some robberies involving U.S. victims have occurred in Nassau, including in areas tourists frequent.Travelers staying in major resorts who use licensed transportation and avoid isolated areas after dark have a different level of exposure than visitors staying in unsecured rentals.Generally, carrying large amounts of cash, using isolated ATMs or venturing into higher-risk neighborhoods is not advised.Vacationers should also pay close attention to warnings about boating, Jet Skis, beach safety, hurricanes and local firearms laws.The Data SideWhat Happens NextAmericans planning trips to the Bahamas should treat the new advisory as a reminder to join the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program and review their security advice from hotels and cruise lines.Generally, experts say vacationers should be cautious, not panicked. The terrifying autopsy results of a woman who was mauled to death by an alligator in Florida , have been revealed. Brittany Clark suffered a vicious attack from the four-metre reptile, which nearly tore her arm and hand off. She was just 31 at the time of her death, while she had gone on a trip with her boyfriend, Chance Allison, and roommate, Jayden Hernandez, to Little Big Econ State Forest in Florida on June 28. The trio were on a hike when the attack took place, with 911 audio and a chilling medical report revealing more about her gruesome final moments. During a swim in a river, Clark was attacked by an alligator, tearing both her arms off while she was still in the water after a " death roll ." 911 audio suggested that Chance had called emergency services while fighting the predator off, as screaming and crying could be heard. Credit: Facebook Autopsy findings It has been revealed that while her limbs were almost completely torn off, her bones also had teeth marks from the alligator. The results were published by associate medical examiner Jenaye L Mack, who performed the post-mortem on Clark's body the next morning. As reported by The New York Post , Dr Mack stated that Clark's death was caused by “multiple blunt force injuries of the upper extremities,” and that the manner of death was an accident. The medical expert added that she had also suffered “near complete traumatic amputation of the left arm at the shoulder and near complete traumatic amputation of the right distal forearm”. Dr Mack horrifically found teeth marks on the left clavicle, left scapula, and ventral left arm. After the attacks, trappers killed an alligator found nearby, which was confirmed to be the one responsible for the deadly attack by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials. It was reported that Chance tried desperately to free his girlfriend from the reptile's grip, as it ripped her arms off. Chance was desperately calling for help from the 911 dispatcher. Credit: Facebook Victim's boyfriend recalls incident Chance later recalled that the predator came “out of absolutely nowhere” and quickly grabbed hold of his girlfriend while they were in the river. He explained: “We were smiling and talking and then it was complete chaos.” Describing his late partner as "bad a**," he said that she used her final words to ask him to look after her dog, who was with them on the hike. “While we were waiting for emergency services to arrive, Brittany just told me to make sure I took care of Hokie,” he heartbreakingly revealed. Chance added: “It was one of the last things she said to me.” Clark was rushed to hospital, but she would tragically lose her life. Hernandez, who also witnessed her death, said he "won't ever forget every detail of this scene," as the trip to one of Clark's favorite spots ended in disaster.
