Why Princess Eugenie's New Baby is Causing a Stir
Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, are officially outnumbered following the birth of their third baby.
"���� Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal," the official Royal Family Instagram account wrote on Tuesday, August 4. "The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces."
Alongside the announcement, the account shared an image of the newborn lying on her stomach. The image was credited to Brooksbank.
"Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news," the caption concluded.
Eugenie and Jack — who tied the knot in October 2018 — previously welcomed sons August and Ernest in February 2021 and May 2023, respectively.
Buckingham Palace revealed in May that Eugenie was pregnant and expecting the couple’s third baby.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their third child together, due this summer,” the palace said in a statement to Us Weekly at the time. “August (aged 5) and Ernest (aged 2) are also very excited to have another sibling join the family.”
The statement added that Eugenie’s uncle King Charles III was “delighted with the news.”
That same day, Eugenie confirmed her pregnancy via Instagram, captioning a photo of August and Ernest looking at an ultrasound image, “Baby Brooksbank due 2026! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️����♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️.”
Eugenie’s baby news came amid a time of turmoil for her father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The former prince was stripped of his royal title in October 2025 due to his connection to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Then, in February, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
As Andrew’s controversy made headlines, Eugenie and her older sister, Princess Beatrice, stepped back from the public eye while the family weathered the scandal.
“Eugenie and Beatrice have had to change their upcoming public-facing plans and future plans this year,” a source exclusively told Us in March. “They aren’t as worried about Andrew being arrested and going to jail, but they are still horrified that he’s involved in this and worry there could be more to come.”
While the family — including Eugenie and Beatrice’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, who was allegedly also friends with Epstein — remained tight-lipped about Andrew’s alleged misdeeds, the insider added, “It’s devastating for [the princesses] and in London it’s all people are talking about.”
According to a second source, Eugenie and Beatrice were “not actually planning on doing any public events in the near future because of everything surrounding their parents because they know that will be the focus.”
The second insider also denied claims that the royal family shunned Eugenie and Beatrice amid the scandal.
“The royal family has not distanced themselves from the girls. [Prince] William and [Princess] Kate [Middleton] are close with them,” the source said. “They have been through enough. They are not being blamed. There is a lot of compassion. They are not pariahs. They are cared for and loved under the circumstances which are incredibly painful.”
The royals “have compassion” for Eugenie and Beatrice’s difficult situation, per the second insider.
“The royal family’s feelings have not changed. They love the girls,” the source continued. “The only feelings that have changed are toward Andrew and Fergie. They don’t hold Beatrice and Eugenie accountable. They are victims. … They have had strong royal connections and are still getting support from them.”
