Ohio Man's Ominous Final Messages Before Tragic Puerto Rico Murder

A friend of an Ohio man who was allegedly murdered in the style of an execution in Puerto Rico has spoken about the devastating moment he realised something had gone terribly wrong, and the last message he received from his late friend. Tyler Wilkin, 35, had moved from southwest Ohio to Puerto Rico in 2024, where he had begun building a new life and had started a relationship with his girlfriend, Iva Mo. But his life was tragically cut short while he was camping alone at Playa la Selva, a remote area on the island. According to police, Wilkin was shot once at close range in the back of the head. His body was discovered by a person on an early-morning walk on July 10. Wilkin had moved to Puerto Rico to start a new life. During the following two days, he remained in contact with friends and family, sending photographs and videos of his campsite and showing off fish he had caught and cooked. However, he did mention an eerie encounter with another man in the area. According to Mo, Wilkin had told friends about someone who was setting off fireworks and, bizarrely, howling like a wolf. He later sent another message, reportedly saying: "The howler is back!" Roughly two hours later, Wilkin sent what would become his final message . "This guy is getting rowdy, LOL," he reportedly wrote. Heartbreakingly, that was the last his loved ones ever heard from him. Mo said she usually received a message from Wilkin every morning at around 6AM. It was normally something along the lines of: "Good morning, love," the grieving girlfriend revealed. One of Wilkin's close friends, Charles Bucher, said he became worried for Wilkin’s welfare after finding out that police had been at the beach. Mo told an Ohio local news outlet : "He had texted to one of our friends saying, ‘The howler is back!’ And then, at two in the morning, like two hours later, he said something like, 'This guy is getting rowdy, LOL.' And that was the last that we ever heard of him." Now, his friends and girlfriend are seeking answers and have raised more than $23,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for a private investigation . They have expressed frustration over what they believe has been a lack of progress in the official investigation. Wilkin's death has also prompted concern among his family in Ohio. His father is a cousin of Ohio State Senator Shane Wilkin, who reportedly asked Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson to check on the case.
