Why Meghan's Latest Family Photos Are Stirring Emotions

Share Post

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made a meaningful visit to Princess Diana’s childhood home during their recent European getaway with their children.

The Duchess of Sussex posted intimate family pics on Instagram Thursday, including snaps from Althorp — Diana’s family’s ancestral estate where she grew up.

In one of the shots, Princess Lilibet, 5, walks through a grassy field with trees while wearing a dress, and in another pic, Prince Archie, 7, walks barefoot in a pair of shorts.

Diana is buried on a secluded island called Oval Lake at Althorp, her family’s 15,000-acre estate in Northamptonshire, England, which is now owned by her younger brother, Charles Spencer. It is not accessible to the public.

Although Diana’s burial site is not open to the public, the estate grounds are typically open to visitors during the summer. But the estate’s website announced that it was closed July 10 and 11 — which matches up with Harry’s family’s visit.

Diana died in August 1997 in a car crash in Paris, France. She was 36 years old.

Harry and Markle visited Oval Lake in 2022, on the 25th anniversary of her death. He wrote about the emotional moment in his 2023 memoir, “Spare.”

“At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum,” he wrote.

Harry said that Markle asked for clarity and guidance as she knelt down and touched Diana’s grave.

More snaps the mother of two included in her Instagram post Thursday are from the family’s visit to Portugal, including shots of her in a one-piece black swimsuit at a beach, as well as a shirtless Harry playfully tossing Lilibet in a huge pool as Archie relaxes in the water.

Markle’s carousel also included Archie getting to sit in the cockpit of a plane with the pilots, and the “Suits” alum happily sunbathing with their rescue beagle, Mamma Mia.

A black-and-white shot of her and her husband laughing made it into the post as well.

“Summer Holiday ☀️,” she captioned the photos.

Buckingham Palace confirmed earlier this month that Charles and Queen Camilla hosted Harry, Markle and their two children at Highgrove House. It marked the first time Charles had seen Lilibet and Archie in four years.

Photos of their reunion at the king’s private country residence in Gloucestershire, England, were not released.

The visit came after drama surrounding whether or not Markle and the children were going to London due to security concerns.

Despite the positive update, Page Six was told that Charles, 77, made sure to have a “witness” at the July 10 reunion — his wife, Camilla.

“The queen was there for a reason,” royal writer Robert Jobson told us. “To make sure that everything was witnessed.”

Charles’ cautious move came after the Sussexes have spilled royal family secrets and allegations in their notorious 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, 2022 Netflix docu-series (“Harry & Meghan”) and Harry’s 2023 “Spare” memoir.
